چکیده

We investigate the properties of interacting Q-balls and boson stars that sit on top of each other in great detail. The model that describes these solutions is essentially a (gravitating) two-scalar field model where both scalar fields are complex. We construct interacting Qballs or boson stars with arbitrarily small charges but finite mass. We observe that in the interacting case – where the interaction can be either due to the potential or due to gravity – two types of solutions exist for equal frequencies: one for which the two scalar fields are equal, but also one for which the two scalar fields differ. This constitutes a symmetry breaking in the model. While for Q-balls asymmetric solutions have always corresponding symmetric solutions and are thus likely unstable to decay to symmetric solutions with lower energy, there exists a parameter regime for interacting boson stars, where only asymmetric solutions exist. We present the domain of existence for two interacting non-rotating solutions as well as for solutions describing the interaction between rotating and non-rotating Q-balls and boson stars, respectively.

Angularly excited and interacting boson stars and Q-balls

We study angularly excited as well as interacting non-topological solitons, so-called Qballs and their gravitating counterparts, so-called boson stars in 3 + 1 dimensions. Q-balls and boson stars carry a non-vanishing Noether charge and arise as solutions of complex scalar field models in a flat space-time background and coupled minimally to gravity, respectively. We present examples of interac...

Weak-scale hidden sector and electroweak Q-balls

By extending the scalar sector of the Standard Model (SM) by a U(1) singlet, we show that the electroweak symmetry breaking enables the formation of a stable, electrically neutral, colorless Q-ball which couples to the SM particle spectrum solely through the Higgs boson. This Q-ball has mainly weak and gravitational interactions, and behaves as a collection of weakly interacting massive particl...

Two-Field Q-ball Solutions of Supersymmetric Hybrid Inflation

We demonstrate the existence of two-field Q-ball solutions of the scalar field equations of supersymmetric Dand F-term hybrid inflation. The solutions consist of a complex inflaton field together with a real symmetry breaking field. Such inflatonic Q-balls may play a fundamental role in reheating and the postinflation era of supersymmetric hybrid inflation models. [email protected] mcdonald@...

Charged-spinning-gravitating Q-balls

We consider the lagrangian of a self-interacting complex scalar field admitting generically Q-balls solutions. This model is extended by minimal coupling to electromagnetism and to gravity. A stationnary, axially-symmetric ansatz for the different fields is used in order to reduce the classical equations. The system of non-linear partial differential equations obtained becomes a boundary value ...

A Numerical Study of Boson Stars: Einstein Equations with a Matter Source

The study of the properties and dynamics of self-gravitating bosonic objects in Einstein gravity was conducted. Bosons are promising candidates for dark matter. They can form compact objects through a Jeans instability mechanism. We studied boson stars made up of self-gravitating scalar fields, with and without nonlinear self-couplings. These are non-topological solutions of the coupled Einstei...
